Book Fair, Autumn Mood & New Beginnings

The flame-colored leaves have settled on the ground, brightening the grey days that November brings. Dark afternoons, steady rain, and the first autumn storms make me retreat indoors and turn my home into a small cocoon of warmth. My daughter bakes oatmeal cookies and puzzles quietly at the dining table, and I soak in the gentle atmosphere as I write.

This year, stepping into BogForum as an author is an experience I will carry with me for a long time. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello. I was deeply touched by your words about The Danish War Bride. One reader said, “I’m at the part where Kirsten has reached the air force base. I can picture it all in my mind.” A comment like that warms me more than I can express. That is exactly what I hope for when I write—that the story creates images, emotions, and room for reflection.
In my last blog post, I promised that the English edition—The Scandinavian War Bride—would be ready before the end of the year. And we are almost there. The cover is taking its final shape, the second proofread is complete, and all the small (and not-so-small) tasks are in motion. But I must admit: I underestimated how much time strategy and marketing require, and how important it is to move in the right order. That’s why we’ve decided to push the release to the beginning of the new year.
Being able to devote myself fully to writing—to developing characters, exploring new ideas, and nurturing projects—still feels unreal. A privilege I don’t take lightly. I’m working on two new projects that I cannot wait to share more about. But the writing process has a way of shifting unexpectedly, and I’m still learning how early to bring you into that journey. Tell me—would you like to follow along from the very beginning, or does it feel more meaningful when I share glimpses once the projects have found their shape?
The coming month will be a busy one—not the overwhelming kind, but the good kind. The kind where ideas and words find each other, and the days feel full in the best possible way. I’m curious to see how much I am able to achieve before the next newsletter.
Thank you for reading along and for being part of this journey toward the next book. Your presence means more than you know.
Warmly,
Desiree
